Election 2015 – Thirsk and Malton constituency

North Yorkshire Liberals have selected the Liberal Candidate for the Thirsk and Malton constituency

It will be the third time John Clark has stood as the Liberal Party’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency following election campaigns in 2005 and 2010.

John Clark, the leader of the party on both Ryedale District and North Yorkshire County Councils, said:

We have a lot of support in over half of the constituency and offer more opposition to the Conservatives than any other party. The conservative candidate claims he wants a fairer society. That statement must be challenged. In the last 5 years we have become a less fair society, with bedroom tax, cuts to welfare benefits and a complete waste of money on the rehash of the NHS.

John Clark will stand on the principles of the Liberal Party and its mission statement which reads: ‘To build a Liberal society in which every citizen should possess liberty, property and security and none shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity. It’s chief care is for the rights and opportunities of the individual and in all spheres it sets freedom first.’

John Clark said

In today’s language, we want to empower people, not the Liberal Party. I believe we must give all people who wish to challenge the austerity route an opportunity to vote liberal.
